Milky Way

The milky way is the galaxy that contains the solar system. It gets it's name from it's milky glowing appearance across the sky. It has this appearance because of the earths position within the galactic plane around two thirds of the way out from the center.
The milky way is only one of 200 billion galaxies in the universe. The milky way is a spiral galaxy 100,000-120,000 light years in diameter in it is about 200-600 billion stars.
The galaxy has about 50billion planets in it. It moves at a rate of 552 to 630 km per hour and is around 13.2 billion years old that's almost as old as the universe. The milky way is part of a group of galaxies. All the stars that you see at night are part of the milky way galaxy.
