All planets except earth were named after Greek and Roman God's and Goddesses. Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, Venus and Mercury were given there names 1000's of years ago. Mercury was named after the god of travel, Venus was named after the goddess of love and beauty, Mars was the king of Roman Gods, Saturn was the Roman God of agriculture, Uranus after the great king of the God's and Neptune after the king of sea.
